Plumbing Repair: DIY or Hire a Professional

If you are like many Americans, you like to occasionally indulge in an HGTV session, and binge watch all of the amazing DIY projects their stars tackle with ease. These shows can be inspiring and may motivate you to tackle your own projects.  In the article below, we will weigh the pros and cons of hiring a professional for your plumbing repair, or, handling your plumbing repair yourself.

Plumbing Repair: Do It Yourself (DIY)

Pros: When you decide to tackle a plumbing repair yourself, already own tools, and are relatively experienced with home repairs, you could potentially save some money by doing the repairs yourself.  Another benefit is that you don’t have to wait to get on a repairman’s schedule, and you can take care of your plumbing repair on your own timeline.

Cons:  If you do not own tools, a plumbing repair can get really expensive because you will need to invest in tools.  If you are uneducated in plumbing basics and home repairs, you likely will take much longer on the plumbing repair because of your learning curve (it can also be super frustrating).  Furthermore, DIY plumbing repairs run the risk of causing more damage in your effort to make the repair.

Plumbing Repair: Hire a Professional

Pros: Hiring a professional for your plumbing repair ensure that your repair is done right the first time, that you don’t waste your time with a laborious repair, and that the work is guaranteed.

Cons: If your plumber is popular, you may have to wait a bit to get one their schedule.
